We provide acute and rehabilitation care for patients with spinal cord injury. We've been serving patients since 1944 and have established an international reputation for our quality services. Most recently we became the first unit in the UK to achieve international accreditation for excellence in the care of adults and children with spinal cord injury. We offer diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation for patients with acute spinal cord injuries and non-traumatic spinal cord lesions of acute onset. Patients are referred from all over the UK and from many countries around the world. |

The concept of very early admission to a spinal cord injuries centre was pioneered here and this, along with many methods of treatment, have been adopted by spinal cord injuries centres around the world. We provide life-long follow-up for our patients through the centre's outpatient department. Those brought back who require hospital admission are readmitted to the centre whenever possible to avoid complications that are more likely to occur outside a specialised unit. Alongside the full range of appropriate treatments offered to patients, the centre also provides ongoing care and assessment of children with spinal cord injury, a posture and seating clinic, gait analysis, driving assessment and a computer workshop. We strive to be at the forefront of clinical educational and research development in all matters relating to spinal cord injury, incorporating links with universities and other spinal centres both nationally and internationally. |
